Dwapara Yuga Diwas: The Sacred Transition from Dharma to the Age of Kali - Restore Harmony in Life with Vedic Astrology Reading

As per the Hindu Shastras, the universe follows the Yuga cycle (or Mahayuga). It is a cyclic age of 4.32 million years (12000 divine years). It comprises mainly four yugas: Krita (Satya) Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. The repetition of these four yugas, keeps the world alive

As a Yuga cycle progresses, the length of each Yuga decreases by one-fourth. In the same way, the moral values, physical strength, and overall spiritual state of humanity within each Yuga also decline. We can call a Yuga cycle the transition from a "Golden Age" of virtue to a "Dark Age" of materialism

In today's Kali Yuga (the dark age), constant negativity surrounds the whole universe, which impacts our minds. Eventually, we feel emotionally drained all the time. Here, Vedic astrology reading works as an effective tool to bring mental and emotional peace back to life. Connect with Ekktaa today

Between the Golden and Dark Ages, there exists a 'Bronze Age', i.e. Dwapara, Yuga. The Vedas consider it the third-best of the four Yugas. The day when the Dwapara Yuga ended is what we term "Dwapara, Yuga Diwas," On this day, Lord Krishna returned to his celestial abode.

As per the Hindu Lunar Calendar, it comes on the Krishna Amavasya (new moon day) of Phalguna month. As per Drik Panchang. Dwapara, Yuga Diwas is on 17th February 2026 this year.

What is Dwapara Yuga? Exploring Cosmic Time Cycles with Vedic Astrology Reading

The Sanskrit words "Dwapara" and "Yuga" mean 'two ahead' and 'age/ era' respectively. Hence, Hinduism and Yogic philosophy mention that Dwapara is the third age of the world cycle of yugas,

It comes after the Treta Yuga (when Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, lived on the earth). During the Dwapara Yuga, lasting for 864,000 years (2,400 divine years), Shri Hari Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Vishnu Ji, existed.

Decline of Dharma during the Dwapara Yuga

According to Srimad Bhagavatam (श्रीरूद्वारावतम), in the Dwapara Yuga, there was a significant decline in righteousness in humanity. Although people aimed to follow the moral paths and were involved in penance and charity, they also became inclined towards worldly pleasures. Due to the increasing desire to achieve more in the material world, human beings started losing divine wisdom

Complete truthfulness became rare during the Dwapara Yuga. Because of dishonesty and wrong actions, diseases and suffering prevailed on the earth. But when people faced these sufferings, they also realised their mistakes and turned toward penance and self-correction.

If you wish to reconnect with your inner self and find spiritual guidance, a horoscope birth chart reading can help you see things more clearly. As a result, you will be able move forward on an elevating spiritual path with confidence

In addition to the decline of morality, the Bronze Age also observed humans understanding the importance of the spiritual practice of yoga. Science also flourished during this Yuga. During the Dwapara Yuga, most of the spiritual qualities became weaker; only compassion and truthfulness remained the core values of religious life. The Vedas were categorised into four parts: Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda during this world age.

Mahabharata during the Dwapara Yuga

One of the most important events that took place during the Dywapara Yuga is the 'war of Mahabharata' when Adharma reached its highest peak. It was the time when people were developing hatred, jealousy, and rivalry towards each other. Many were even willing to harm or even destroy others for their personal benefits.

The Mahabharata war took place on the land of Kurukshetra between the Kauravas and the Pandavas (the descendants of the Kuru dynasty). It was around this time that the dignity and safety of women also started to decline. One of the most powerful examples of this moral decline is when Dushasan, the younger brother of Duryodhana, the eldest Kauravas, dragged Draupadi to the Sabha (royal court) in front of everyone.

As mentioned in the

Shrimad Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 4, Verses 7-8):

Yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati Bhārata |

Abhyutthānam adharmasya tadātmānam srijāmyabam ||

Paritrānāya sādhūnām vināśāya ca duskrtām |

Dharma-samsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge. ||

Literal Meaning:

"O Arjuna, whenever righteousness declines and unrighteousness increases, I manifest Myself. I appear age after age to protect the virtuous, to destroy evil-doers, and to re-establish Dharma."

Essence (Bhavarth):

Here, Lord Krishna teaches Arjuna, the Pandava brother, that whenever Adharma rises in the world, he (Shri Hari) reincarnates in some or the other form and destroys the evil. He brings justice, protects his devotees, and guides the world back onto the path of truth. In essence, "Dharma always prevails."

When Draupadi, was suffering and called for Shri Krishna's help, he appeared and protected her from the sinners.

He was Lord Krishna, the avatar of Shri Hari Vishnu, who himself motivated the Pandavas to fight the Mahabharata war. He also took part in the battle, not as a warrior, but as the charioteer of Arjuna to guide him. He also led the way for the whole Pandava army during the battle. Under the guidance of the Almighty Himself, the Pandavas won the war of the Mahabharata. It was a symbol of the victory of Dharma over Adharma.

End of Dwapara Yuga: Lord Krishna Returning to Vaikuntha

According to the Hindu Puranas, the Dwapara Yuga ended when Lord Krishna left his body. He returned to Vaikuntha Dhaam 36 years after the Mahabharata war. As per the Mausala Parva, Gandhari, the mother of the Kauravas, had cursed Shri Krishna that he would die alone after the destruction of the whole Yadav clan.

One day, Lord Krishna was doing meditation in the forest. Then, a hunter named Jara mistook his foot for a deer and shot him with an arrow. It was the moment when he left his body and returned to his celestial abode. And as a result, the Dwapara, Yuga concluded, laying the foundation for the upcoming Kali Yuga.

Conclusion

We can call the Dwapara, Yuga a world age of contrast, where, although dharma struggled against rising adharma, divine grace continued offering protection. During the tough times, Shri Krishna continued to remind humanity that every age carries lessons, and righteousness always finds its way back
