Kamada Ekadashi: A Day of Devotion, Divine Blessings and Vedic Astrology reading

There are certain sacred days when the connection between us and the divine becomes especially powerful. During these times, prayers, wishes, and manifestations through spiritual practices are believed to reach the divine more easily, and we receive the blessings of our prayers.

One such sacred day is Kamada Ekadashi. It is believed that the spiritual energy of this day helps devotees connect deeply with the divine energy and seek blessings for their sincere desires.

In this article, curated by Ekktaa , an expert in astrology and numerology, we will explore deeper aspects of Kamada Ekadashi, but before that let us recite Lord Vishnu's powerful mantra:

मङ्गलम् भगवान विष्णुः, मङ्गलम् गरुणध्वजः।

मङ्गलम् पुण्डरी काक्षः, मङ्गलाय तनो हरिः॥

Mangalam bhagavaan vishnuh, Mangalam garunadhvajah.

Mangalam, Pundaree Kaakshah, Mangalaay Tano Harih.

All auspiciousness to Lord Vishnu. All auspiciousness to the one who has Garuda as His flag/emblem. All auspiciousness to the lotus-eyed Lord. May Hari bestow auspiciousness on us.

Ekadashi:

Ekadashi is an auspicious observance in Hindu dharma, originating from a divine boon granted by Lord Vishnu.

According to Vedic texts, Goddess Ekadashi emerged from Lord Vishnu to protect him from a demon named Mura and destroyed the demon instantly. Since this divine power manifested on Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu named her 'Ekadashi' and blessed that anyone who observes this day with devotion will attain spiritual merit, prosperity and overall well-being.

There are 24 Ekadashi in a year, observed twice a month, once in Krishna Paksha (waning moon) and once during the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the month. Each Ekadashi carries its own unique spiritual significance.

The Ekadashi observed on the 11th lunar day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the Chaitra month (March to April) is called Kamada Ekadashi and is especially known for fulfilling the desires of devotees. This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu to remove obstacles in life and attract abundance.

On this day devotees perform silent meditation, personal prayers, chanting of sacred Vishnu mantras, and reading of spiritual texts.

The fasting cycle of Ekadashi

The fast of Ekadashi is observed during three days:

Dashmi | Ekadashi | Dwadashi

  • On Dashami devotees should consume only one meal a day so that no residue remains in the body.
  • On Ekadashi the fast continues for the next 24 hours, during which satvik and falahari foods are allowed. Devotees perform a fast on Ekadashi with discipline and devotion.
  • On Dwadashi, the fast is concluded during Parana by having a light meal first.

The legend of Kamada Ekadashi:

From the epic of Mahabharata context and Brahmandapurana, it is said that Yudhishthir once asked Lord Krishna to suggest a vrata that could fulfil the desires. Lord Krishna narrates the story of King Pundarik, the Gandharva Lalit and his wife Lalita.

Once, in the beautiful city of Nagpur, there lived a Gandharva named Lalit. His wife, Lalita, they were deeply in love with each other. Lalit was a renowned singer and Lalita was a dancer.

One day while performing in the court of King Pundrik, the Naga king. Lalit was completely lost in thoughts of his beloved wife Lalita, who was absent from court, due to which he neglected his performance.

The king, angered by this, cursed Lalit, saying that because he was so deeply attached to his wife and neglected his duty, he would become a demon. As a result, Lalit was transformed into a demon and wandered in the forest.

Lalitha, who loved her husband dearly, searched for him. Finally, she found his demon husband in the forest. She became extremely distressed and heartbroken.

Desperate to free him, she approached a sage 'Shringi' and asked him how she could help her husband to get free from this curse. Sage Shringi told her to observe the Kamada Ekadashi Vrata with full devotion and then offer the spiritual merit of the fast to her husband.

Lalita followed the sage's advice. She religiously observed the Kamada Ekadashi vrat and dedicated its merit to Lalit.

As a result, he got freed from the demonic form and regained his original form. In the end, they lived happily together, and after their death, they attained Vaikuntha (Lord Vishnu's abode).

C) Balancing Moon's energy:
In Vedic astrology, the Moon has a strong influence on our mind, intellect, emotions and well-being. A person dealing with mental and emotional negative influences should observe the Ekadashi fast, as it is considered a powerful day to align one with the moon's energy and help overcome emotional challenges.

According to Ekktaa, the best astrologer online consultation, the emphasis should be on spiritual cleansing practices like meditation, chanting mantras, and worship rather than just materialistic donations to earn merit.

The practice of austerity and discipline helps devotees seek happiness for themselves and their loved ones.

Vedic Wisdom - The Universal Math of Ekadashi

Before making spirituality, astrology and numerology her life path, Ekktaa believes in deeply researching these disciplines. Through years of exploration, she discovered the profound wisdom and spiritual significance behind cultural and spiritual practices of Ekadashi.

She shares that our Vedic texts beautifully highlight Ekadashi’s extraordinary spiritual power.

According to Brahma Purnana, people who sincerely observe just twenty-four ekadashis in a year with devotion and dedication earn spiritual merit equivalent to some of the most sacred acts in Sanatan Dharma like Visiting four Dhamas. In Hindu dharma the four most sacred holy sites are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Dwarkadhish, and Jagannath, located in four different corners of India. Visiting these sites requires long journeys, physical strength, and resources. In contrast, Ekadashi offers a sacred path equivalent to all.

Similarly, the merit of observing Ekadashi fast is equal to the spiritual benefit of reciting mantras, chanting Vishnu Sahastranama a thousand times and performing Govardhan Pujas one hundred times.

Not everyone has the resources and strength to perform these sacred acts. But Ekadashi requires only discipline and devotion. Ekktaa ji believes that the divine resides within us and is meant to be discovered within ourselves, not only through grand pilgrimages, wealth or elaborate rituals.
