The world is a tapestry of desires and illusions, where Maya entangles the soul. We get lost in material possessions, ego, relationships, and worldly attractions that we forget our true purpose. This purpose is to awaken to our true selves, rise above illusions, and align with divine energy.
According to our Vedic texts, one sacred fast, Mohini Ekadashi, serves as a gentle reminder to rise above the illusions of the material world and reconnect with our true spiritual essence.
Let us explore more about Mohini Ekadashi, but before that let us recite Lord Vishnu's mantra:
ॐ नारायणाय विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि तन्नो विष्णु प्रचोदयात
Om Narayanaya Vidmahe Vasudevaya Dhimahi Tanno Vishnu Prachodayat
Meaning: We meditate on Vasudeva (Shri Krishna). May Lord Vishnu inspire us with higher wisdom and the right direction.
Mohini Ekadashi is the day dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his only female avatar, Mohini, the Hindu goddess of enchantment and beauty.
The day is considered highly auspicious in Hindu dharma. It falls on the 11th lunar day (Ekadashi) of the bright fortnight of the month of Vaisakha (April to May).
According to the Vishnu Purana, during the churning of the great ocean (Samudra manthan), Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Mohini to obtain the Amrita (nectar of immortality), deceive the asuras, and distribute the Amrit among the Devas.
This fast is especially important for Vaishnavas, as Mohini is also revered as Mahalasa Narayani, the kuldevi of various Hindu Brahmin communities in India.
According to Hindu belief, even Lord Rama observed this fast to gain inner strength required to endure the pain of separation from Sita.
According to Drik Panchang, Mohini Ekadashi falls on Monday, April 27, 2026.
On 28th Apr, Paraná Time - 06:09 to 08:42. On Parana Day, Dwadashi ends at 18:51.

Once, King Yudhishthir, in his desire for spiritual wisdom, approached Lord Krishna and asked, 'O Lord, is there a sacred path that can remove sins and bring true peace to the soul?
In response, Lord Krishna replied, "Yes, there is a powerful and divine Mohini Ekadashi fast, which falls during the waxing moon of the Vaisakha month." Lord Krishna then narrated this sacred katha.
On the banks of the Saraswati River, there lived a kind and generous Vaishya (merchant) named Dhanpal with his family and five sons: Sumna, Dhyutiman, Medhavi, Sukrat and Drishtabuddhi.
Dhanpal was a great follower of Lord Vishnu, and he always used to indulge in performing charitable works for the benefit of others. He constructed wells, monasteries, gardens, ponds, and shelters.
He was content with what he had. But unfortunately his fifth son, Distrabudhhi was not like him. He became involved in sinful and immoral activities.
He was always involved in alcohol intoxication, gambling, and association with prostitutes (courtesans). He wasted his father's hard-earned money on liquor, bad company, courtesans, and gambling.
One day, in anger, his father kicked Drishtabuddhi out of his home. Having squandered his wealth through reckless living, he began wandering from door to door. Even the courtesan rejected him due to his poverty. Everyone distanced themselves from Drishtabuddhi.
Filled with sorrow and despair, unable to find any support, he went to the hermitage of the great sage Kaundinya, seeking guidance and mercy.
He sought sage advice for a way to do penance for his sins.
Sage Kaundinya suggests him to observe Mohini Ekadashi fast, observed during Shukla Paksha of the Vaisakha month.
He explained the significance of the fast: that anyone who observes it with devotion becomes free from material attachments (Maya) and attains the abode of Lord Vishnu.
Upon receiving guidance from the sage, Dhrishtabuddhi followed the fasts' rituals with complete discipline.
After performing the Mohini Ekadashi fast, he got purified of all sins and later lived a peaceful life. Moreover, in his next life, he was born as Garuda (Lord Vishnu's vehicle), eventually attaining the celestial abode of Lord Vishnu.
The fast of Mohini Ekadashi is highly meritorious. Even listening to this sacred story grants merit equivalent to donating a thousand cows.

"Mohini" means "illusion" or "spell". This Ekadashi is observed to honour Lord Vishnu's beautiful female form, Mohini, who is believed to help dissolve illusions and emotional burdens in our lives.
Maya is the divine power that hides true reality and creates temporary or illusionary forms. Due to this illusion, we consider the world as real and become attached to it, focusing only on the outer world instead of deeper spiritual truths.
This alluring distraction pulls us away from our true essence. One can surpass this illusion through the following:
Every zodiac sign carries its own unique influences, and similarly, the effects of rituals and practices differ for each individual.

The Mohini Mantra, "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Mohini Roopaya Namaha", is the main mantra for today, honouring Lord Vishnu's Mohini avatar.
It is a mantra that you should chant 108 times with a tulsi mala for the best results.
