Eventually, Lord Vishnu, feeling fatigued, entered a cave and went into yogic nidra (deep meditative state). While he was sleeping, demon Mura attempted to attack him. At that very moment, a powerful divine feminine energy called Ekadashi emerged from Lord Vishnu’s body. With the divine sound of 'Hum (हुं)', she destroyed the demon instantly, restoring balance to the universe.
Pleased by the purity of Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu blessed humanity with a boon; whoever observes the fast of Ekadashi will be freed from past-life sins and blessed with prosperity, abundance and divine grace.

Padmini Ekadashi is considered extremely dear to Lord Vishnu.
Lord Krishna himself narrated an ancient tale from Treta Yuga to Yudhishthira during their exile period (Agyatvas) which glorifies the significance of Padmini Ekadashi.
Once, there lived a king named Kritavirya. He possessed immense name, fame and fortune. Kirtivriya had many queens but unfortunately none of them could bear him a child. Despite having everything, the king and his queens lived in despair and hopelessness. Deeply distressed, the king renounced all royal comforts and moved out to the forest with his devoted wife, Padmini, to perform intense penance.
It is believed that the king performed penance for 1000 years, yet he didn't attain success.
In the meantime, Queen Padmini approached the revered sati, Anusaya. With compassion, Anusaya advised her to observe the sacred fast of Padmini Ekadashi, which falls during Adhik Maas Shukla Paksha. Devi Anusaya explained the rituals and practices of the Ekadashi fast. After that, Queen Padmini and King Kritavirya followed the sacred fast with sincerity and dedication.
Their devotion and unwavering faith deeply pleased Lord Vishnu. Moved by their prayers, Lord Vishnu appeared before the couple and blessed them with a son.
That divine child grew up to be the legendary king Kartavirya Arjuna, respected in the three worlds. It is believed that he imprisoned Ravana also.
